In traditional room service, the guest picks up the phone and reads the dishes from the menu aloud to reception or the kitchen. At busy times the line is engaged, dishes are misheard, and it can get confusing which order belongs to which room.
How does the room QR code work?
Every room has its own QR code. When the guest scans it, the menu opens and the room number is known automatically; the guest does not need to type a room number, first name or surname. They place their order and it goes straight to the kitchen screen.
Payment: cash/card or to the room account
- Charge to my room: The guest chooses to charge the amount to the room account. The amount is posted to the room account after reception approves it.
- Cash / card: The order is brought to the room and payment is taken on delivery.
- Items included in the package: For items included in the accommodation package there is no payment step at all; the order goes straight to the room.
Security: no charging to another room's account
The room number is taken not from what the guest types but from the encrypted QR code of the scanned room. So a guest cannot charge an order to another room's account. Every order charged to a room also goes through reception approval, adding a second layer of control.
